Shigaraki Hasara by Kai Tsujimura

Kai Tsujimura's Shigaraki Hasara exemplifies his masterful command of traditional Japanese pottery techniques. This vessel showcases the distinctive ash-glazing and wood-firing methods that have become hallmarks of his work. Following in the footsteps of his father, Shirō Tsujimura, Kai creates functional pieces that embrace the unpredictable nature of the kiln, resulting in a powerful aesthetic that balances dramatic form with sensual texture. The Shigaraki clay's natural characteristics emerge through his deliberate incorporation of chance elements, creating a piece that honors Momoyama era traditions while expressing Kai's unique artistic vision.

Shigaraki ware plates are porous, so avoid prolonged soaking or leaving oily residues. After use, wash gently with lukewarm water and dry thoroughly before storage. The earthy texture and glaze variations are part of the unique character of this pottery.
